Almond Butter and Jelly...

Eating Almond/or Cashew butter twice a day is fun. Both are organic, raw with no salt added. I am eating them on Stone Ground Wheat crackers. Yummy. A bit dry sometimes, which forces me to drink more water, a win-win really. It seems to be helping with my carbs and protein needed throughout the day, so onward we shall march.

On to the jelly part...

So, here it is week 4. And if you read my previous blog posts you will be reminded that I am actually re-doing last week’s training regime as my body (mainly knees and hips) is struggling to keep up the running bit. You see, I figure that if I am to run a marathon then this whole running thing is important, right?

Today around 8 minutes (just like yesterday) my knees and hips groaned and protested loudly about the pain and grinding that was going on. What is up with the 8 minutes? I had a TON of energy, most of my body wanted to run but without the knees and hips, things were just not working out – AGAIN! So, I decided to check out the elliptical machine instead. I needed to sweat, and exercise, I refuse to let something as silly as my overweight out of shape body stand in the way. Progress people, I require progress!

In short, the elliptical was AWESOME! I ended up eliptical’ing (is that a word?) for 25 minutes, 3 miles and 300 calories. The entire time my heart hovered around 145 to 150 beats per minute, and my body felt joy. This was what exercising was supposed to feel like! It friggen rocked. It was almost better then Se… never mind, nothing is better than that – not even pizza. Even when it is bad, nothing is better than … But alas, I digress.

After 25 minutes, my legs were starting to feel a bit wishy washy and as good as it was still feeling I did not want to overdo it. So I spun down and got off the elliptical. Whoa! My legs felt as if they were made of Jelly! Holy crud. I looked like I had just gotten off a serious ride at Disney land, or as if my legs were made of Styrofoam. It was weird. Out of body experience weird. They did not hurt, they just did not want to work correctly. As I bowed out and in, walking like a drunk cowboy, stumbling to the stairs I figured enough was enough and sat down for a minute or two. What a rush. I actually missed and wanted to get back on the elliptical. Too late now, my legs were done for the day, and I was just hoping I could make it down the stairs to go shower and get ready for the day.

Since High School when I wrestled, I have never felt that fatigued. Nor have I felt that good while exercising. I could get used to this. Oh yeah. The problem is IT WAS NOT RUNNING! Obviously my lungs and heart can take the jogging motions just fine. It is my knees and hips. What to do…

I will NOT give up. In fact, it felt so good today that even though tomorrow is my ‘Rest from Running’ day, I will run again! See if I can push past this 8 minute barrier, and after that I will then stride along my new found friend, the elliptical.
